Research that Changes Lives
The turmoil caused by bipolar disorder’s manic highs and depressed lows affects millions of people and their families. This challenging condition has been with us since recorded history, yet for many who struggle, effective treatments and cures remain elusive. As many of 20% of people with bipolar disorders die by suicide and many more will attempt suicide, reflecting the intense pain and loss that too often result from this illness.
For more than 20 years, the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Program has been working toward a future that gives everyone with bipolar disorder access to personalized, evidence-based treatments so they can lead full, productive lives.
We believe this goal is within reach thanks to the collaborative and dedicated efforts of our multidisciplinary scientists, research participants, and visionary donors. And you can help!
Your gift can fuel our efforts to:
- Identify bipolar’s genetic and biological underpinnings to develop tailored treatments
- Improve understanding of connections with other diseases, like heart conditions and substance use disorders
- Explore how sleep, diet, and exercise contribute to affect symptoms and course of illness
- Develop apps to help patients manage their own bipolar symptoms
- Expand our international collaborations to advance global science in bipolar disorder
- Pilot innovative studies exploring novel approaches to understanding and treating bipolar disorder
- Train the next generation of bipolar disorder researchers and clinicians
Think about how you can make a difference. When we work together, we can accomplish anything!
We would be pleased to discuss your interests and goals — and the impact your gift can have. We can connect you with faculty and staff, identify where your help is most needed, and share how giving can provide personal satisfaction as well as financial and tax benefits.
