There are a wide variety of programs and opportunities for Michigan Medicine house officers and faculty. If you are interested in these opportunities, please contact OHEI Faculty Programs or House Officer Programs.
The Health Equity and Quality Scholars Program (HEQSP) is a 10-month certificate program designed to further develop house officers into leaders and change agents. House officers learn about cultural humility and the root causes of health disparities and apply what they learned by completing a structured quality improvement initiative aimed at reducing health or healthcare disparities.
Faculty and house officers can help promote the development of leadership skills in medical students interested in health equity, diversity, and inclusion work.
The University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) invites undecided candidates, who have been accepted to attend UMMS, to visit campus. They plan both virtual and in-person programming to give prospective students an inside glimpse at what life is really like as a Michigan medical student. House officers and faculty can participate in this event.
The M-FAMS Partnership is a collaboration between OHEI and the Student Diversity Council, bringing like-minded medical students and faculty together in a guided mentorship program. The goal of the program is to pair interested medical students with an individual faculty member who will serve as a mentor for any diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and identity related interests, efforts and issues during their time here at Michigan Medicine. Mentors and mentees will meet at least once quarterly. In addition, OHEI will host a larger annual event to celebrate all members of the M-FAMS Partnership.
Michigan Medicine faculty and house officers are invited to participate in the Youth Summit on May 20, 2023. The Youth Summit is a daylong outreach event aimed at engaging and exposing diverse middle school students from schools across southeast Michigan with Michigan Medicine health care teams, units and departments. Students have an opportunity to engage with practitioners through hands-on simulations, career panels and talks, and personal connections, in preparation for medical career paths. If you have a passion for health equity and a desire to inspire the next generation of health care leaders, please inquire about becoming involved.
