About Us
Founded at the University of Michigan Medical School in 2001, Global REACH (Research, Education, And Collaboration in Health) is a key partner to our UMMS faculty members, learners, and departments working to engage with international collaborators to advance health, research, and education.
By engaging partners around the globe, not only do we extend Michigan Medicine to improve health in other (often low-resource) settings, we also generate scholarship to improve healthcare delivery here at home. Our work complements the medical school’s education-driven mission as well as Michigan Medicine’s broader mission to “advance health to serve Michigan and the world.”
Our Numbers
In all, 26 University of Michigan Medical School students embarked on educational experiences abroad in 2019-20 and 2020-21, many with financial support from Global REACH. We support a variety of clinical and research-based programs for students seeking to engage in global health.
Our Faculty Associates and Faculty Affiliates network boasts 200-plus colleagues engaged in global health from nearly every UMMS department and discipline as well as colleagues from other U-M health science schools.
Additionally, UMMS holds student exchange agreements with 24 partner institutions across 14 countries and regularly hosts visiting students for both clinical and research-focused learning opportunities at Michigan Medicine. Global REACH facilitates the majority of these visits.
