Course learning objectives:
- Consider the context in which we are making hiring decisions
- Identify how bias can influence the hiring process
- Discuss how we can practice more conscious awareness and mitigate unintended biases in our hiring processes, particularly in a virtual interviewing environment
Unconscious Bias in Faculty Hiring
Helps participants examine our Medical School faculty hiring cycle and how to implement practices that mitigate bias.
Unconscious Bias in Staff Hiring
Helps participants identify how bias can influence hiring-related decisions, and provides strategies for mitigating the unintended effects of bias.
Unconscious Bias in House Officer (GME) Hiring
Helps participants understand the current context in which important hiring decisions are made while exploring common biases and discussing strategies for practicing conscious awareness in assessing selection and hiring of house officers.
The Building Toward Belonging Training serves as the foundation for a continuous curriculum to help us evolve into a more respectful and inclusive academic medical center.
This mandatory training encourages participants to build an inclusive mindset over time which can help Michigan Medicine shift to a more accountable culture related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Year 1: Implicit Bias Training
This self-guided training is available both in a LARA-compliant, 60-minute format and a 25-minute non-LARA-compliant format, depending on the needs of the individual.
Year 2: Mitigating Bias for LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Training
This self-guided training is available both in a LARA-compliant, 60-minute format and a 25-minute non-LARA-compliant format. Focuses on helping Michigan Medicine staff, faculty and learners use their influence to create a more inclusive health care environment for the LGBTQIA+ community.
